There is nothing in this world that I
look forward to more than an early morning canoe paddle on a wilderness lake in
Algonquin Park. I have been doing it for over 20 years and I never tire of the
experience. Especially in the spring, but even in the summer and fall, a morning
paddle can stimulate all of my senses. The colours along the horizon; the chill
in the air; the warmth of the sun; the cry of a loon; the splash of a fish; the
smell of the pines; the rocking of the canoe -- they all combine to lift my soul
and to stir my creative juices.
I have paddled dozens of lakes and
rivers, seen hundreds of sunrises and sunsets and dozens of moonrises, enjoyed
countless experiences with wildlife, and snapped thousands of photographs.
So many aspects of the Algonquin landscape are visually appealing to me. It all
amounts to enough artistic inspiration for a lifetime of painting.
My art defines me. It allows me to
combine all of my passions and talents; but most of all, my art allows me to
continue doing what I look forward to the most -- experiencing the unique and
engaging environment that is Algonquin Park. And the fact that I have been able
to translate that passion into a successful career is the greatest satisfaction
that I can have.
