From the mountain lakes of the Yukon, to the
portages of Algonquin Park in Ontario, to the cross-country ski
trails of Quebec's Gatineau Park - if a landscape catches the eye
of Joseph Pearce, he will turn it into a distinctive, captivating
painting. For over two decades, this Canadian artist has sought
out the tranquility or the drama of northern wilderness, looking
for a perfect sunrise or a wistful moment in time.
Joseph was born and raised in Oshawa, Ontario; he was schooled in
Zoology at the University of Toronto and in Visual Arts at Humber
College. He currently lives near
Kemptville, Ontario. Joseph's eye for landscape was developed,
first as a nature photographer and then as a painter, always
fueled by a love for traveling the great outdoors of Canada and a
complete dedication to his art.
A keen canoeist and accomplished naturalist,
Joseph paints from photographs that he has taken on more than 75
wilderness canoe trips and trans-Canada treks. While preferring to
paint a scene that really exists somewhere, he enjoys working with
expanded colours to put his own artistic interpretation onto the
canvas. He has also often noted that the best shot comes from
having the patience to wait that extra minute for the light to
change or for the wind to blow the canoe to a slightly better
vantage point.
When asked about the key to his success,
Joseph Pearce will insist that it comes from a combination of
talent, passion and hard work.
